Vietnam  officially the Socialist Republic of Vietnam  is the easternmost
country on the Indochina Peninsula in Southeast Asia. It is bordered by
China to the north, Laos to the northwest, Cambodia to the southwest, and
the South China Sea to the east. With a population of over 86 million,

Nature has blessed Vietnam with a bountiful harvest. With soaring peaks
like Hoang Lien mountains and a killer coastline, with beaches like Quy
Nhon and Nha Trang, Vietnam is simply stunning. Blanketed from head to toe
with a patchwork of emerald-green rice paddies, timelessly tended by
peasant women in conical hats, this time the brochures don't lie.

The rumble of a million motorbikes, the cries of hawkers and the buzz of
business transactions are as ever-present as the tinkle of the past in the
pagodas, and the swish of the scythe. Modern Asia meets medieval Asia and,
in the Old Quarter of Hanoi, the two become one. For culinary adventurers,
Vietnam is a treasure trove of more than 500 different dishes. It's a

#7 - Philippines

The Republic of the Philippines, commonly known as the Philippines, is an
archipelagic country located in Southeast Asia with Manila as its capital
city. The Philippine archipelago comprises 7,107 islands in the western
Pacific Ocean, sharing maritime borders with Indonesia, Malaysia, Palau,
the Republic of China (Taiwan), and Vietnam. The Philippines is the world's
12th most populous country with a population of about 91 million people.
Its national economy is the 46th largest in the world with an estimated
2008 gross domestic product (GDP) of over US$154.073 billion. There are more
than 11 million overseas Filipinos worldwide, about 11% of the total
population of the Philippines. Ecologically, Philippines is considered to
be among 17 of the most megadiverse countries in the world.

The second-largest archipelago in the world, with over 7000 tropical
islands, the Philippines is one of the great treasures of Southeast
Asia.First and foremost, the Philippines is a place of natural wonders ? a
string of coral-fringed islands strewn across a vast expanse of the western
Pacific. Below sea level, the Philippines boasts some of the world’s best
diving and snorkelling, including wreck diving around Coron and swimming
with the whale sharks off Donsol. Above sea level, it has a fantastic
landscape with wonders enough to stagger even the most jaded traveller: the
Chocolate Hills of Bohol, Banaue & the Rice Terraces and fascinating
reminders of the islands’ history in places such as Samar & Leyte and
Vigan. And if you’re after palm-fringed, white-sand beaches, try laidback
Sipalay or flat-out party town Boracay.

#8 - Indonesia

The Republic of Indonesia , is a transcontinental country in Southeast Asia
and Oceania. Comprising 17,508 islands, it is the world's largest
archipelagic state. With an estimated population of around 237 million
people,it is the world's fourth most populous country and the most populous
Muslim-majority nation; however, no reference is made to Islam in the
Indonesian constitution. Indonesia is a republic, with an elected
legislature and president. The nation's capital city is Jakarta. The
country shares land borders with Papua New Guinea, East Timor and Malaysia.
Other neighboring countries include Singapore, the Philippines, Australia,
and the Indian territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Rippling across the equator for nearly 5000km, Indonesia encompasses more
than 17,000 islands, two-thirds of which are inhabited and richly layered
with character. On Sulawesi, the elaborate funeral ceremonies and timeless
traditions of Tana Toraja are light years from the surfing culture of
Lombok. But so too are the mighty saddle-backed Batak mansions of Danua
Toba and the volcanic lakes of Sumatra from the mummies and deeply etched
gorges of Papua’s Baliem Valley. The resorts and restaurants of Bali pamper
precocious style cats, while at the same moment threadbare backpackers are
adopted by homestays in Kalimantan.

#9 - Hong Kong

Hong Kong , officially the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, is a
territory located on the Pearl River Delta in East Asia, bordering the
Chinese province of Guangdong to the north and facing the South China Sea
to the east, west and south. It has a population of 6.9 million people, and
is one of the most densely populated areas in the world.

Hong Kong means different things to different people. For some it is the
view from the Peak by day or Hong Kong Island’s skyline by night as the
skyscrapers flush their neon rainbows, competing like tetchy cuttlefish to
out-display each other. It can be about a lingering morning of tea and
bite-sized dim sum, or a multidish Chinese banquet. Others ? hikers,
birders, climbers ? say nothing beats the Hong Kong countryside for its
beauty, facilities and accessibility.

#10 - Taiwan

Taiwan is an island in East Asia. "Taiwan" is also commonly used to refer
to the territories governed by the Republic of China  and to the ROC
itself, which governs the island of Taiwan, Orchid Island and Green Island
in the Pacific off the Taiwan coast, the Penghu islands in the Taiwan
Strait, and Kinmen and the Matsu Islands off the coast of mainland Fujian
Province. The Kuomintang (KMT) party lost its control of mainland China to
Chinese Communist Party in the Chinese Civil war and moved its government
to the island of Taiwan in 1949 which it had acquired control of from Japan
in 1945. The island groups of Taiwan and Penghu are officially administered
as Taiwan Province of the ROC. However, in practice, almost all government
power is exercised at the national and local (city/county) levels.

True, Taiwan hasn’t yet made it to the top of everybody’s ‘to visit’ list,
but we think this is partially a result of people not quite knowing what
Taiwan has to offer. But within the borders of this small,
sweet-potato-shaped island barely the size of many American states lies a
world of contrasts and a melange of cultural influences you’re not likely
to find anywhere else on the planet.

#11 - Macau

The Macau Special Administrative Region, , commonly known as Macau or Macao
, is one of the two special administrative regions of the People's Republic
of China, the other being Hong Kong. Macau lies on the western side of the
Pearl River Delta, bordering Guangdong province in the north and facing the
South China Sea in the east and south. The territory has thriving industries
such as textiles, electronics and toys, and a notable tourist industry that
boasts a wide range of hotels, resorts, stadiums, restaurants and casinos.
This makes it one of the richest cities in the world.

Macau is a city with two faces. On the one hand, the fortresses, churches
and food of its former colonial master Portugal speak to a uniquely
Mediterranean style on the China coast. On the other, Macau is the
self-styled Las Vegas of the East.

Especially if you’ve been in China for a while you’ll also find there is a
distinctly different feel to Macau. While about 95% of residents are
Chinese, the remainder is mostly made up of Portuguese and Macanese (people
with mixed Portuguese, Chinese and/or African blood). It’s this fusion of
Mediterranean and Asian peoples, lifestyles, temperaments and food ? oh,
the food ? that makes Macau so much fun.

Population - 520,400
