Description:
Negeri Sembilan, a State which border Melaka, is perhaps one of the most unique States in Malaysia by virtue of a system which has been practised for centuries, known as the Adat Pepatih or the matrilineal system. As the name suggests, the nucleus or core of the society is the female and her female offsprings.
According to several articles on Adat Pepatih, the name Adat Pepatih is said to have originated from Datuk Parapatieh Nan Sebatang, a nickname used by Sutan Balun. The system was said to have been introduced in Negeri Sembilan following the migration of the Minangkabau in the 14th century.
